Even though your cruise is basically an all-inclusive vacation, there are a few things that are not included. It’s important to know and understand what extra expenses you will have when planning your cruise vacation budget.

Most major cruise lines will not include the following:
- No alcoholic beverages or soft drinks. All cruise lines have a variety of packages to purchase.
- No food off the ship unless specified (some cruise line private ports will have complimentary lunch)
- Photos
- No excursions on land. You can buy these through the cruise line or book with a reputable outside vendor.
- The daily gratuities for the cabin steward and waiters are not included. Prices are based on a per person per day rate. They vary from $16 and up. The cost depends on the cruise line and the cabin category booked. Suites are usually more.
- Transportation to your cruise. Some cruise lines offer an affordable flight option.
- No shuttles or parking at the port. You need to arrange for these a head of time.
- Wi-Fi is not included but all cruise lines offer plans you can buy.
Other add-ons are specialty dining venues, arcades, some activities, rides, or shows on a few cruise lines. We seldom ever purchase any add-ons when we cruise. There’s plenty to eat, see and do for us!

There are many package options offered by the cruise lines that will include many of these extras. When booking your cruise, get a quote for the basic fare. Also request one with add-on packages that interest you. Sometimes it just takes a little math to figure out if it’s worth it for your cruise experience.
Many luxury cruise lines will include most of these extras. If you plan on purchasing many of these add-ons, consider booking with a luxury cruise line. It may be worth it. A cruise line like Viking Cruises could be a good option.
As your cruise travel agent, I like to discuss these added expenses with you beforehand. This ensures you will have a clear understanding of what to plan for.
