Choosing the Right Cabin for Your Cruise

Be prepared. Your cabin is smaller than a hotel room. But, they are very well organized with plenty of storage space. Every ship has a variety of different cabins to choose from.

Interior cabins are the smallest and the lowest priced. They are located on the interior of the ship and don’t have a window. For many cruisers getting an interior is a great bargain especially when your budget is tight. Passengers often tell me that they don’t spend much time in their cabin. It’s a great choice for them.

Suites are the largest cabins and cost more. But they come with extra perks like priority boarding, a personal butler, and upscale amenities.

We prefer having a balcony because I love seeing the ocean anytime night or day. We always order morning room service and enjoy sitting outside with our morning continental snack. The cabins with a balcony or veranda, are typically larger. I love having the extra cabin space.

I also enjoy the ocean view cabins as they are larger, less expensive and have a nice sized window. Some Carnival ships have a deluxe ocean view for up to five guests! They are perfect for families because they have an additional bathroom with a small tub!

The new ships also have specialty areas for a different experience. The cabins in these areas have access to private pools, breakfast rooms, private dining rooms, bars, etc. The specialty area cabins are typically priced higher.

Choosing the perfect sized cabin often depends on how guests we need to accommodate. Some cabins can accommodate up to five passengers. The more the merrier! It is much less expensive per passenger to book more guests in the cabins. Most cruise lines only accommodate four! Sadly, a solo/single cruiser will typically pay almost as much as booking a cabin for two. There are a few cruise lines that are building smaller, compact and more affordable cabins for these guests.

When you book your cabin you can choose having the twin beds apart or together to make a king/queen bed. The beds for extra guests include the couch, a Pullman or trundle bed.

Choosing the right cabin for your cruise is crucial. It is one of the most important decisions you can make when booking. As a cruise travel agent I like to give my clients options. I don’t mind pricing each category that is suitable for my clients. In this way they can weigh the pro’s and con’s of each option.
