On your first day you will meet your cabin steward. He/she will personally visit your cabin. They like to introduce themselves and want to get to know you. It amazes me how they remember our names and always have a friendly greeting for us.

This is a good time to ask for any extra items you need.
Here’s a example of requests:

- Request cabin service in the morning for bed making, towel replacement, and trash emptying.
- Ask for bathrobes since they are no longer in the closet on some cruise lines and must be requested.
- Ask for ice! I like plenty of ice to fill my mug. We usually give the steward a tip and ask him to keep our ice bucket filled.
- You can request a mattress topper if your bed is too hard. Also extra pillows.
- Request a throw blanket.
- Request extra hangers if needed.
- Ask for extra bars of soap if needed.
- Some passengers like sleeping with a fan on. The cruise line has a few fans they will give the guests to use.

We have found that being friendly to your cabin steward will enhance your over-all cruise experience. Your cabin is only one of many they clean and maintain. Please be patient and courteous to the staff.

Remember that tipping your cabin steward a little will go a long ways! They work hard to provide quality service and appreciate a small reward and thank you from the guests.
I always submit the cruise line feedback review after a cruise. It’s nice to give recognition by name to a steward for a job well done.
We have cruised many, many times during the past 20 years. I cannot remember ever having a cabin steward who didn’t do a wonderful job.

Here’s a group just for new cruisers and others! No judgment with correct answers to your questions. Lots of in-depth information, tips and personal advice!
