Why Backpacks Are Ideal for Cruises

When we cruise, I prefer using a backpack instead of carrying totes or a large purse. Believe me, I’ve tried many different ones but decided a backpack is my favorite option! Using a backpack is great solution for the whole family too.

I like having a backpack with a variety of pockets with zippers to secure my items and keep them organized. Wearing a backpack also frees up my hands to pull my suitcase, carry documents or shopping bags. A backpack works well for my carry one when flying too!

I use one instead of a beach tote when we get off the ship at the different ports. I used to carry a tote but found it was cumbersome. It was often heavy while walking around ports and the beach. It was also too easy to set it down and leave it unattended.

I roll up a beach towel very tightly and put it in the bottom of the backpack. I then add wipes, a few first aid things like bandaids and eye drops, and sun block. Add a hat and a bottle of water or a mug filled with ice. Tuck some extra cash in a safe inside pocket along with copies of your passports and insurance policy.

I also use my backpack on the ship during the day. Throw in a book, games or cards, my mug, and I’m ready to enjoy the daily activities throughout the ship.

I don’t take a normal purse on a cruise. I just put my wallet in my backpack for the plane ride.

I pack a small over-the-shoulder bag for use on the ship when we dine. This way I can take my phone, reading glasses, and lip balm.

A small rolling back pack is perfect for taking one or two cartons of soda onboard. It’s much easier than carrying them around with you to check in and to get on the ship. There are many of them available that meet the measurements for an airplane carry on.

There are a lot of backpack options available. I found a lightweight one at Walmart and have used it just for cruising for years!
