Cruise Final Payment Deadlines Explained

The final payment date on a cruise booking is crucial. It is the deadline by which you must pay the remaining balance of your cruise fare. It’s a crucial date because if you don’t make the payment by then, your booking may be canceled.

Unfortunately this happened to my son years ago. He lost his deposit and cabin! That is why I, as a travel agent, monitor final payment dates closely for my clients.

General Guidelines:

The final payment for a cruise is generally due 75 to 120 days before the sailing date. However, it can vary depending on the length of the cruise. It also depends on the cruise line. Most popular cruise lines have different due dates for different cruises. The dates vary according to their length.

  • Short Cruises (1-4 nights): Final payment is often due 75 days before the sailing date.
  • Longer Cruises (5 nights or more): Final payment is typically due 90 days before the sailing date.
  • Very Long Cruises (15 nights or more): Some lines may require final payment 120 days before the sailing date.
  • Holiday Sailings: Cruise lines have different final payment due dates for sailings that occur on or between Christmas and/or New Year’s day.
  • Suites and Concierge Levels: There may my be different final payment due dates for suites and concierge levels on some cruise lines.

Important Information:

  • Specific Cruise Line Policies: Always review the specific terms and conditions. This will provide the exact final payment due date of your chosen cruise line.
  • Itinerary Information:You can usually find the final payment due date on your itinerary or by checking your cruise line’s website.
  • Booking Time:The final payment due date may also depend on the time of your booking.
  • Payment Plans: Many cruise lines offer payment plans. This allows you to make regular payments until your final payment date.

If you want to make changes to your booking, make them before the final due date to avoid penalties. Changes such as name or birth date corrections, cabin assignments, etc. You can also cancel your cruise before the final date without incurring a penalty except for non-refundable deposits.

The cruise lines will not extend your date.
Additionally, explore payment plans offered by cruise lines.

Always review specific cruise line policies. Your travel agent should give you the final dates when booking your reservation.
Make a reminder note of your final payment date.
