Work Out While Cruising: Gym Options Onboard

Yes, most modern cruise ships do have fitness gyms onboard.

I can say I’ve even been in one! One time! 😂.

Actually the first time I ever used an elliptical was on a cruise. My daughter, Miss Fitness Guru, convinced me to go the gym one morning. Other than physical therapy for a broken femur, I had never been to a fitness center. We lived in a very rural farming community so we stayed fit by doing a lot of chores! Anyway, she helped set me up on an elliptical and I spent a whole 30 minutes on it! FYI – I eventually bought one for home!

But, I do cruise with family and friends that like to hit the gym while we cruise. I think we all have “that one person” in our lives! 😂

What does a gym on a cruise look like? Just like any others except you usually have a beautiful ocean view while you’re working out.

These gyms are typically well-equipped and include:

  • Cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes)
  • Weight machines and free weights
  • Yoga, Pilates, or spin classes
  • Personal training sessions (sometimes for an extra fee)
  • Group fitness classes (often free, some may cost extra)

  • Outdoor workout areas
  • TRX suspension training
  • Sea-view workout rooms
  • Running tracks around the deck

Larger or newer ships may even offer state-of-the-art wellness centers with things like:

Cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, and Celebrity all have gyms onboard their ships. If fitness is important to you, it’s easy to keep up your workout routine while cruising.

Cruise Lines That Offer Fitness Classes:

  • Carnival Cruise Line – Offers group classes and personal training (some for a fee).
  • Royal Caribbean – Extensive fitness schedule, including Flywheel cycling and TRX (some fees apply).
  • Norwegian Cruise Line – Includes Zumba and yoga; premium classes have an extra charge.
  • Princess Cruises – Offers classes and a fitness-themed program called “Princess Fitness.”
  • Celebrity Cruises – Known for high-end wellness, including F45 Training and Peloton bikes.
  • Disney Cruise Line – Offers classes suited to family-friendly wellness (some adult-only classes too).

Cruises are famous for 24/7 dining, buffets, and unlimited desserts—not to mention cocktails.
Hitting the gym helps offset the indulgence and keeps you feeling good.

Here’s a group just for new cruisers and others! No judgement with correct answers to your questions. Lots of in-depth information, tips and personal advice!
