Faster To The Fun: Pros and Cons for Cruisers

Many new cruisers ask me about “Faster To The Fun” and if I think it’s worth it? It’s a pricey “upsell” by Carnival. So, I think new cruisers need to research and think about the pros and cons before purchasing.

Determining if “Faster to the Fun” (FTTF) is worth the cost is subjective. It really depends on individual preferences and travel style. It offers benefits like priority boarding and early cabin access. It also provides expedited guest services. However, these may not be crucial for everyone.

Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Potential benefits of FTTF:

  • Faster Embarkation: Priority boarding gets you on the ship sooner, allowing you to start enjoying your cruise earlier.
  • Early Cabin Access: Drop off your luggage in your cabin before the general boarding rush. You still cannot stay in your cabin until 1:30 pm.
  • Priority Guest Services: A dedicated line and phone number can be helpful if you need assistance during peak times.
  • Priority Dining Reservations: FTTF can give you a better chance at securing reservations at popular specialty dining venues.
  • Priority Water Shuttle Boarding: Useful if your itinerary includes tender ports.
  • Priority Disembarkation: Allows you to leave the ship earlier at the end of the cruise.

When FTTF might not be worth it:

  • If you’re a Diamond or Platinum VIFP member: These members already receive all of the FTTF benefits.
  • If you’re arriving later in the boarding process: If you’re not arriving to the port early, you may find that the benefits of priority boarding are less significant.
  • If you’re a flexible, laid-back traveler: If you don’t mind waiting in a few lines and don’t need to rush, FTTF may not be necessary.
  • If your itinerary doesn’t include tender ports: The priority water shuttle boarding perk would be useless.
  • If you’re traveling on a budget: The cost of FTTF can be a significant expense, and you can still enjoy your cruise without it.

Important Information

The number of FTTF packages available is limited. It varies by cruise. The availability is potentially influenced by the number of Diamond and Platinum loyalty members and suite guests booked.  These guests will be boarded before those who have purchased FTTF.

Prices vary depending on the cruise length and ship, with newer ships potentially being more expensive. FTTF is priced per cabin, per cruise.

Only one FTTF purchase is needed per cabin.

For back-to-back cruises, you must purchase FTTF for each sailing.

FTTF is not available on Carnival Journeys cruises, European cruises, or cruises from Norfolk.

To purchase Carnival’s Faster to the Fun (FTTF) package, you need to visit Carnival’s website before your cruise. It’s usually available for purchase on the “Shore Excursions” page for your specific sailing. Booking it as soon as possible is recommended because it often sells out.

Consider your own travel style and priorities. If you value speed, convenience, and maximizing your time on board, FTTF might be a worthwhile investment. This is especially true if you’re not already receiving these benefits through your VIFP status. However, if you’re comfortable with a more relaxed pace, you can likely skip it. You are also traveling on a budget. You can still have a great cruise.
