FIRST CRUISE – DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY! #1

A short series to address the worries and concerns first time Carnival cruisers face.

“Long Walks & Long Lines”

Boarding your ship will involve hurrying, waiting and walking some more!

This is not like checking into a hotel. Think of it like you’re checking into the airport to get to your flight. But, instead of an airplane you are boarding a big, beautiful cruise ship!

MY TIPS:

  • Arrive at the terminal at the arrival time on your boarding pass. Not before. At most terminals there is no place to sit outside. If it’s busy, the staff will not allow to enter before your designated arrival time.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. There’s some pretty long walks in the terminal and to get on the ship. Think big airport long…There really isn’t a place to change in many of the areas. And it could be a few hours before you can get luggage delivered to your cabin..
  • Use a rolling bag to carry your soda, wine, etc. So much easier than dragging or packing them around. If that’s all you use, just tuck your documents in the outside pockets of your suitcase. And, now you have an extra bag to take home filled with souvenirs!
  • I also like using a backpack instead of a purse while cruising.
  • Have your boarding documents easily accessible. (Boarding pass, passport or ID with your birth certificate.)
  • Be prepared to get your picture taken! I’m not just talking for their security passes but for souvenirs. They have setups with photographers in the terminal before you board and they will be walking around on the ship. Kind of fun, but you have to pay for every pic they take on your cruise if you want it!
  • Once onboard go to your muster station and then go grab a bite to eat! But wait, there’s long lines at the buffet and Guy’s Burgers! No problem, check out the deli, and other venues. Carnival includes a lot of complementary options.

Long lines.

It’s a common complaint but just be patient. It gives you a chance to chat with your fellow passengers! Nothing passes the time more quickly than meeting and making new friends.
Bring your patience and your smiles!

Here’s a group just for new cruisers and others! No judgment with correct answers to your questions. Lots of in-depth information, tips and personal advice!
