FIRST CRUISE – DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY #4
ELEVATORS: “Up and down or standing around!”
So many cruisers complain about using the elevators. As a new cruiser you will find crowds and lines waiting for “slow” elevators. Think about it, you have thousands of guests needing to go up or down to the places they want to go!
MY TIPS:
*On embarkation day they close down some of the banks of elevators to the guests while they move the luggage to the cabins. This will last most of the day. There’s always a bank of elevators available to use somewhere. Check to the far forward or aft.

*Use the stairs if you can. In our younger days we always used the stairs and never gained a pound! Sometimes just walking up or down one flight of stairs will get you away from the crowds.

*During the cruise the midship elevators tend to be the busiest. Walk to the other banks that aren’t as busy.
*On a few ships you’ll encounter the “smart” elevators. It seems like they are smarter than many guests. You just need to tap the deck you’re going to. It will show a letter of the elevator you need to use. If there’s three of you, tap your deck three times. There’s no buttons inside the elevator so don’t just jump on one and expect to get to your deck.

*Use common etiquette:
– Stand back and let other passengers off before you step up.
– Be kind to those with scooters and wheelchairs.
– Walk to the back of the elevator to allow room for others.
– Take your turn! Pushing and shoving others just isn’t cool.
– Take off your big backpacks if you can
– Teach your kids about using the elevators properly too.

*Don’t leave food or drinks in the elevators. That’s honestly nasty!
*If you’re in a line or small crowd, chat with the other guests. Again it passes the time and you’ll be on your way before you know it!
*Don’t wait until the last minute to head to your next event. Leave yourself a little extra time to get to where you’re going.
*Explore your ships deck plan/map to get familiar with the layout and find how many elevator banks there are.
Again, here’s where good manners will keep everyone in a good mood!
